Why Full-Time Travel Is Cheaper Than You Think — Even When You’re Moving Fast

Why Full-Time Travel Is Cheaper Than You Think — Even When You’re Moving Fast

I always knew full-time travel could be cheaper than living in the U.S.
But after actually doing it — city-hopping almost nonstop — I realized it’s even cheaper than I thought.

And I’ve been traveling for years.

We’re not talking about bare-bones budgets or living off rice and bananas. This is a vibrant lifestyle filled with movement, great meals, good places to stay, daily adventures, and high-quality living. All for less than what most people spend just to get by in one U.S. city.

The Real Numbers: What I Actually Spend

Here’s what my full-time travel life actually costs, as someone who moves frequently and rarely stays anywhere more than five days:

  • Latin America: $40 to $60 per day
  • Northern Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong): $50 to $70 per day

That includes accommodations, flights, meals, SIM cards, local transport, occasional coworking, and the spontaneous fun that always shows up.

Total monthly spend: $2,500 to $3,000

That’s less than I paid for rent alone back in Austin when I had a high-end apartment.

Let’s break that down:

  • Rent in Austin: $1,500 per month minimum. I’ve also paid $3,000 to $4,000 before
  • Car and car insurance: Gone
  • Health insurance: Replaced with a travel-friendly plan that includes medical benefits
  • Food: Usually cheaper abroad, especially if you eat local

Bottom line? I’m living better, for less.

The Superpower of Full-Time Travel Is Choice

Here’s what people don’t get: this lifestyle isn’t just about money.
It’s about freedom of decision.

  • If I don’t vibe with a place, I leave. I rarely book more than five nights in advance
  • If I want more space, I get it. If I want to stay simple, I do that too
  • I don’t need a massive apartment because I’m out experiencing life, not sitting in it
  • But when I want a rooftop view or a luxury stay, I choose that — and it’s affordable

Your accommodations become an extension of your mood. Your life becomes dynamic, not fixed. That’s freedom most people have never tasted.

Travel Isn’t Expensive. Staying Stuck Is.

Everyone thinks travel is the luxury. But the real luxury is waking up where you want, when you want, doing what you love — and not needing to escape from it.

Most people are spending thousands per month on a life they don’t even love:

  • Rent they resent
  • Commutes they hate
  • Stuff they don’t use
  • Subscriptions they forgot about
  • Weekend plans just to feel something

When you remove those fixed costs and replace them with intentional, experience-rich living, the math flips. Travel doesn’t break the bank. It breaks the illusion that staying stuck is cheaper or safer.

Most People Are Just Waiting

Here’s the part nobody wants to admit:

Almost every person I meet tells me they’re amazed by what I do.
They say “I’m jealous” or “You’re living the dream.”
But deep down, most of them could do it too.

I’m not special. I just had the courage to start.

Most people want to travel more. They want freedom. They want stories.
They’ve just never had the push to make it real.

They’re waiting for the right time. The right amount saved. The right season of life.
But that day doesn’t show up until you decide to live differently.

You Don’t Have to Settle

You don’t have to be a minimalist. You don’t have to be rich.
You just have to want a different life enough to say yes.

The world is ready for you.
The prices aren’t as scary as you think.
And the opportunities are endless when you’re willing to live on your own terms.

So if you’re spending thousands just to feel stuck in one place…
Ask yourself:
What if it could cost less to feel free?
